The Laughing Otter- because life’s just too short

Still not shy.

My dogs got into a fight this morning. This is the third fight in four days… and the first one to draw blood from human flesh.

Mirax, the poor thing, is evidently morally reprehensible to Cocoa, who feels the need to attack her viciously for the slightest provocation. The first fight drew blood from Mirax’s ear. The second was mercifully interrupted just prior to a second bloodletting.

The third added another nick to Mirax’s ear and a nasty scratch to her head, a bitter looking but fairly small cut to Kaelin’s finger- through the dead skin. It also added a centimeter long gash-puncture to the fleshy back of my thumb about an inch below the bottom joint.

I went to the urgent care, after thoroughly washing it with hot soapy water (irrigated it with a syringe) and they complimented Noske on his wash job, and then bandaged me up. No stitches- they don’t want it to close until it’s drained.

I’m so tired.

Okay! Lets see where I left off.

At last update I had a sinus cold. That’s over and gone with, hooray! The baby feels much better too, and we got a very cute humidifier.

$35 at Target! Rar!

It’s made a huge difference in both his and my head colds. Delightful! A lovely lady at the Rockwood Valley Clinic made the suggestion and we’re very grateful!

So, as I mentioned- I got a new laptop and a new computer.

Lovely, aren’t they?

Mkay. So on the 19th, we went out to Bostons for dinner after a fun day at Riverfront Park Plaza (I think that’s what it’s called! The ‘mall’ by the park). The pictures from the day out didn’t turn out so hot (We went to see Coraline again!) but dinner’s did. This is one of the few that worked, taken from the parking garage of a series of runner statues. It’s a little creepy at first!

This one was taken from the escalator in the shopping center of the street and architecture. It’s not perfect but you get the idea.

This is me and Ennosuke. Orion took the picture- evidentally the menu contained delicious food ideas! (That’s my laptop, by the way. Pretty…)

I got more pictures of the pets, too!

They’ve been off and on behaving, and it’s been interesting. The neighbors complained that the dogs were barking, but I swear they were inside. Wierd.

On to bento!

I got new gear. A nifty little bento with three compartments and silverware in the lid. Very nice! Two bucks at the grocery outlet.

I packed a lunch for Orion, for tomorrow’s work. Silly me, he has tomorrow off! But here’s the pictures of it anyway.

02-24-09-bento-comp

There’s chicken and mashed potatoes, (and a thing of gravy but it’s not pictured), glazed carrots, a small container of mixed veggies, two steamed dumplings, two fried miso-tuna-tofu hearts, a miso-marinated chickie egg (that looks like a demented snowman) and some broccoli florets, and a radish with hearts. The sauces are ranch and catalina for his veggies. This is, by far, the cutest bento I’ve ever made. *laughs*

02-19-09-snack-bento

Snack bento I made for my mom. On top is a rice ball, some chicken breast, and some steamed broccoli with a little sauce container of teriyaki sauce. On the bottom was fail-snack. It was leftover alfredo mixed with some crumbled chicken breast and steamed broccoli, and chicken on the side- but the chicken was bad. It was my dinner, and supposed to be her next-day snack, but it gave me food poisoning. I dumped it out. She had a different snack, and I didn’t have time for a picture. It was… if I remember, there was a babybel cheese, some crackers, some broccoli (I had lots) and some meatloaf cut into a flower on a rice ball (also cut into a flower). It appears Orion has a pic on his phone, I’ll update that shortly.

02-22-09-bento

It’s a Very Brown Bento! *laughs* There’s the drumsticks of a Cornish Game Hen on a bed of white rice, three gyoza and some heart croquettes, a chili-powder tuna-miso-tofu heart, a soy-marinated egg, three little ‘flowers’ of the same tofu-miso-tuna mix that are pan fried instead of deep fried, and some meatloaf. The side dish is fried rice. It’s all very brown in color, but very delicious in flavor.

*********

I’ve installed Photoshop on here, and I plan to fiddle with it for a while and see if I can get the hang of making compilations so that instead of pages and pages of big pictures you can just load one picture that’s all of them in miniature.  Ennosuke says I can even learn to use ImageReady to make little animated gifs. That’s be cute, too!

****************

I finished a new book, called The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey. It’s the fourth book in the Five Hundred Kingdoms series, and I highly recommend them all. This one was a little disappointing, but not in the writing- only because I simply cannot figure out the fairy tale it’s based around!

*****************

Anyway, it’s 4:14 in the morning and I’m pretty exhausted. The baby is sleeping and I should do likewikes if I’m to be up and existing tomorrow! Take care!

I like the new setup. It’s easy to navigate and it all makes sense now!. Also, evidently, it’s screwed up because of my screen resolution. This sucks.  The drag and drop thing is sort of cool, though.

Anyway, since I haven’t posted in a few days, there’s not much to update. We’ll be moving on the 12th or thereabouts, over to our new home in Spokane. The baby is doing well, except for fussing incessantly when he’s awake. Not crying, just.. fussing. Poor guy. I wonder what’s bothering him? The dogs are doing well enough, although they could use more attention. The cats are also doing well, and the ferrets have new dig boxes made out of washbasins the hospital sent us home with after the baby was born. Christmastime is finally here so I can listen to Christmas music, eat candycanes and drink eggnog, and sing carols while running around in my Santa hat without feeling bad.

I have a crapload of new pictures, I just haven’t thought about uploading them just yet. I was, however, thinking of making a place to upload and store them where people could come and see them without having to come through here. Then I thought “heh, that’s silly, that’ll take away traffic!” so instead I’ll just keep doing the annoying uploading one at a time thing I have to do to post on here.

I’ll have to look around and find out if there’s an easier way to upload. I haven’t been paying a lot of attention to this site, I guess. I’ll add a new page, too, since everyone keeps asking “what do you want for Christmas?”. So here, I’ll put a list on the journal, and people can see for themselves what I want, where to buy it, and how much. Then I don’t have to feel bad for asking for something nice because I didn’t know that the giver only wanted to give me something for ten bucks or less.

I’ve been experimenting with the food given to us, we’ve had scrambled eggs with spicy chicken sausage and cilantro, sauteed onions and mushrooms, and bell peppers. I’ve taken the same mix of veggies and sausage without the eggs, and added corn and bean salsa, and mixed it with rice and fried it all together, too. Both of those turned out really good, the guys loved it. The sourdough bread became my personal addiction, and it’s gone now. There was a giant chocolate cake that was my breakfast the other day (a slice, not the whole thing) and some onion-cheese rolls that were really good, too.

Otherwise, my son was circumcised on Friday. Traumatic experience for him and us both. Orion’s decided we’re not doing it for any other son we have. (I could have told him that.)

Packing is going hectically. Things aren’t getting sorted, just tossed into boxes. There’ll be time to sort at the new house. >< Not much time now. My dad is coming out on the 12th, and maybe my mom, which would be nice.

Otherwise, things are as usual. Here, have some pictures! XD

Technically, as of Monday the 10th, I am ‘in labor’. However, it’s only pre-labor, the achy, crampy feeling that helps soften and dialate the cervix, so don’t anyone go all “OMG!” on me, because I get enough of that at the moment as it is! My mom is here to help out, so it’s just the waiting game now.

We had an ultrasound done, because the uterus measurements they take each week were measuring a little small. Worried, they ordered the ultrasound to see if he was growing properly.

The machine’s official size: Roughly ten pounds.

Yeah, I think he’s growing well, don’t you?

So we’re doing the waiting game, although when the midwives call me back I’m hoping to make it not be a waiting game. I don’t want to induce labor just yet, but I also don’t want an eleven pound baby. (Or rather, I don’t mind having the baby. It’s the part where I have to get the baby -out- that I don’t want to do.)

As I understand it, there’s a few things we can do here at home, as well as some non-Pitocin things at the doctor’s office. I want to talk to a midwife and discuss my options, and see if this ultrasound will have any effect on our game plan.

In the meantime, I do have some new pictures, but I’m not sure if I can post them just yet. I’m not on my own computer, for reasons made obvious by the new pictures! so if I can find a way to upload them to the site without saving them to this lovely loaner computer, I can give you new stuff.

In the meantime, we pulled up the carpet in the ‘baby’s room’, which is really sort of the halfway between the kitchen and the living room room, revealing that at some point, the carpets got really wet and a lot of gross stuff got spilled on them, leaving the pad covering the floor. Once we got the pad up, we found a layer of mold. Fortunately, it wasn’t the black killer mold, just the normal “Sweet small mercies why?” sort. Between my mom and I, an ENTIRE bottle of Comet cleanser, and three scrubbie sponges and a scrub brush, we successfully went from nasty to actually very pretty. There’s a few discolored places that will never be quite right, but it’s still FAR better than what was in there. No wonder we were getting sick! The house smells better already just for having gotten it up.

That black stuff is mold. Lots of mold.

Also, I got tired of having a long-haired Chihuameranian, and so Koda got a haircut. It’s not groomer quality at all, because I don’t have clippers, so instead he got a lopsided, lumpy-bumpy haircut with scissors, but now he can go to the bathroom without getting his fur dirty, he can go to the dog park and get muddy without gluing himself to the rug when he dries.

Before

Before

On the other hand, he looks ridiculous. Ennosuke holds that he looks like a cat- mom says more like a fox. I say he looks like a sad little shaved rat-cat thing. But it certainly does make his baths a lot easier. Five minutes, tops, and he’s been in, scrubbed, rinsed, and dried. I can do that myself, easily, which means he can get out more at the park because getting muddy or grubby isn’t a forty minute ordeal to clean up anymore.

I haven’t done bento since the last time I posted one, so you’re not missing anything there. I just haven’t had the time or the inclination to cook. It’s been so busy getting the house cleaned and stuff, that I just don’t feel like making the effort. We have dinner, we have lunch, we never have leftovers, and I don’t want to make seperate meals for bento.

Cut me some slack. I’m uncomfortable!

Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything left to say. It’s just been waiting, and organizing, and… more waiting.

I’ll edit this post to include pictures to go with the above information, rather than put it in a seperate post. See you later!

Edit: Added pictures 11/18
